ALL PROCEEDS FROM THIS SONG THROUGH THE END OF NOVEMBER 2017 WILL GO TO THE TEXAS LIVING WATERS PROJECT

I wrote this song as a sort of songwriting assignment about nature conservation. I am lucky enough to spend time in the mountains of New Mexico every year, and the cabin I stay in looks over a beautiful creek (the one pictured in the song photo). I wrote this song while watching that creek wind by me and thinking about what important life-givers rivers are. The climax of the Standing Rock situation was happening at the time and it all just seemed so heartbreaking. So this one's for rivers!

*******************************************
oh silver river you have carried me
down from the mountain to the calming sea
but when the fires come howling through
who's gonna carry you
oh ancient pine you have held me close
when the sky darkens and the north wind blows
but when the forest shifts beneath your feet
oh who will hold thee

oh old giver
silver river
take now a light
into the dark and endless night

oh sparrow hawk how your call beckons
through darkened forests when the night descends
but when the winds prove too much for you
oh will call for you
oh whitened sands how you have warmed my skin
upon the sunset when the night sets in
but when the rising waters scatter you
who's gonna warm you
oh silver river you have carried me
down from the mountain to the calming sea
but when the fires come howling through
who's gonna carry you

oh old giver
silver river
take now a light
into the dark and endless night
